We at Noel Group Recruitment are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Construction Estimator to join our Dublin based client with positions available in Limerick and Dublin. The ideal candidates will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs and quantities involved in construction projects, ensuring projects stay within budget and are delivered on time. The Estimator will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to provide detailed cost estimates, assess risk, and help develop competitive bids for clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Estimating:

    • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, and equipment.
    • Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare cost estimates.
    • Develop take-offs and pricing schedules for a wide range of construction projects (residential, commercial, industrial).
  2. Tendering and Bidding:

    • Prepare and submit competitive tenders for projects, ensuring all costs are accounted for and profit margins are considered.
    • Assess subcontractor quotes, negotiate terms, and incorporate into the overall project estimate.
    • Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain quotes and pricing for materials and services.
  3. Cost Analysis and Budget Control:

    • Monitor ongoing project costs, ensuring they align with the estimated budget.
    • Work with project managers to identify cost-saving opportunities and propose adjustments where necessary.
    • Provide financial and progress reports to senior management.
  4. Risk Management:

    • Identify potential risks and challenges related to costs, time, and materials for projects.
    • Advise the team on potential changes in costs based on evolving market conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
  5. Project Support and Communication:

    • Collaborate with the project management team to ensure the project progresses according to the budget.
    • Provide regular updates to senior management on estimated costs, adjustments, and project financials.
    • Communicate with clients and contractors regarding changes or modifications to the estimate.
  6. Post-Construction Activities:

    • Assist in the final account process by reviewing and assessing changes to the scope of work.
    • Ensure all cost records and documents are accurate and well-organized for future reference.

Key Requirements:

  • Education: A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, relevant professional certifications or equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Construction Estimator within the construction industry in Ireland.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction costs, pricing structures, and market trends. Familiarity with Irish construction regulations, standards, and industry practices.
  • Skills: Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Candy, CostX, BuildSoft) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word). Strong numerical and analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present and explain cost estimates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify problems early and offer effective solutions, particularly regarding cost management.
  • Legal and Compliance Awareness: Knowledge of Irish building codes, health and safety regulations, and procurement processes.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively within a team, including liaising with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with both public and private sector clients.
  • Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) for estimating.
  • Membership or affiliation with a professional body, such as the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI), would be an advantage.
