Job Title: Accommodation Manager
Location: Hotel Galway
Reports To: General Manager
Purpose of the Job:
To manage the accommodation department effectively through efficient rostering, stock management. The role ensures that agreed standards are consistently maintained with particular attention to bedrooms, public areas, and linen. The Accommodation Manager is responsible for checking guest bedrooms and liaising with other departments, including maintenance, to ensure product standards are upheld.
Principal Accountabilities:
Personnel Management:
- Collaborate closely with the H.R. Manager to achieve personnel goals and objectives.
- Ensure accommodation employees exhibit good social skills and professionalism.
- Maintain appropriate staff levels based on business demand, ensuring operational efficiency.
- Act as a caring employer, proactively working to retain high-quality staff.
- Ensure staff are trained and the daily skills training plan is consistently followed.
- Manage and operate the performance management system in alignment with company standards.
- Assist in recruiting friendly staff with the necessary skill levels for the accommodation department.
Operations & Standards:
- Maintain awareness of daily business, including room occupancy, special requirements, and VIP needs.
- Anticipate future business demands and prepare accordingly.
- Liaise with the reception team regarding arrivals, room moves, and special guest requirements.
- Act on or delegate management requests, ensuring timely follow-through.
- Issue daily work duties and delegate tasks effectively in your absence.
- Deliver daily 15-minute skills training to staff and monitor their performance.
- Ensure the property is well-maintained and all company standards are consistently adhered to.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure all staff do the same.
- Collaborate with the management team, supervisors, and staff to ensure smooth hotel operations.
Guest Care:
- Champion service excellence within the hotel.
- Record and maintain all training records as required, ensuring they are up-to-date.
- Respond to staff suggestions and address them appropriately.
- Handle guest complaints professionally and ensure timely resolution.
- Investigate and respond promptly to any adverse guest feedback.
Control Costs:
- Forecast and schedule staffing requirements accurately to meet business demands.
- Monitor daily rosters to ensure staffing levels align with hotel standards.
- Follow proper procedures for all expenditure requests and liaise with the accounts team regarding accounting matters.
- Implement effective cost control systems within the hotel.
- Minimize waste of materials and energy through careful staff monitoring.
Sales:
- Forward any sales leads received during duty hours to the sales team.
- Promote hotel facilities internally to all guests, encouraging utilization of available services.
Compliance with Statutory and Company Standards:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and company regulations, particularly those related to fire safety, health and safety, hygiene, fiscal responsibilities, customer protection, and employment.
- Keep all fire exits clear and unobstructed at all times.
- Report equipment defects to maintenance promptly, following established procedures.
Occasional Duties:
- Attend seminars and training courses as required.
- Assist with any other duties necessary to support the team and meet guest needs.
- Attend hotel and departmental meetings as necessary.
- Regularly check the fax machine and emails during your shift (typically on an hourly basis).
- Handle guest queries in a helpful and professional manner, referring complaints to the Manager on Duty as needed.
- During peak periods or at management’s request, assist in other areas of the hotel as required.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be living in Ireland and have the right to work in the Republic of Ireland.
- Experience in a similar role is desired
- Visa and relocation packages are not provided for this role.
