We Noel Group Recruitment are currently seeking a proactive and dedicated Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Advisor to join a construction industry. As an EHS Advisor, you will play a key role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental standards are upheld on construction sites across Ireland. Your expertise will help mitigate risks, ensure compliance with regulations, and promote a culture of safety and sustainability within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Health & Safety Management:

    • Implement, monitor, and enforce health and safety policies and procedures on construction sites.
    • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Advise and support project managers and site personnel on safe working practices, risk assessments, and safety protocols.
    • Ensure all statutory requirements, safety regulations, and health and safety standards are being adhered to on-site.
  2. Environmental Compliance:

    • Monitor environmental practices and ensure compliance with environmental laws, including waste management, pollution control, and sustainability efforts.
    • Advise on strategies to minimize environmental impact through responsible waste management, energy use, and material sourcing.
    • Implement initiatives to enhance the company’s environmental performance and sustainability goals.
    • Provide guidance on environmental risk assessments and conduct site audits to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  3. Training and Awareness:

    • Organize and deliver health, safety, and environmental training sessions for staff, contractors, and subcontractors.
    • Promote a safety-first culture and encourage workers to actively participate in EHS programs.
    • Ensure that all site workers have the necessary certifications, training, and equipment to perform their roles safely.
  4. Incident Investigation and Reporting:

    • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses on-site, documenting findings, and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of health and safety incidents, inspections, audits, and environmental compliance.
    • Report regularly to senior management on EHS performance, including risk assessments, safety audits, and environmental compliance status.
  5. Risk Assessment and Hazard Control:

    • Carry out regular risk assessments on construction projects, identifying potential hazards and providing recommendations for hazard control.
    • Develop and implement strategies for risk mitigation, ensuring they align with both company policy and legal requirements.
    • Advise on the development of safe systems of work (SSW) and method statements for construction activities.
  6. Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:

    • Stay up to date with national and European EHS regulations and ensure the company remains compliant with all relevant laws and guidelines.
    • Assist with the preparation of reports and documentation for safety audits, inspections, and environmental assessments.
    • Liaise with regulatory authorities as required, and ensure timely submission of reports and compliance documentation.
  7. Continuous Improvement:

    • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the company’s EHS management system.
    • Promote a proactive approach to health, safety, and environmental management across the organization.
    • Research best practices in EHS, incorporating new approaches and techniques to improve overall performance.

Key Requirements:

  • Education: A third-level qualification in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline. NEBOSH or equivalent EHS certifications are a distinct advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in an EHS advisory role within the construction industry, preferably in Ireland.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of Irish health, safety, and environmental regulations and industry best practices.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and EHS management software. Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify potential risks and develop effective solutions. Skilled in investigating incidents and driving continuous improvement.
  • Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with site teams, project managers, and subcontractors to promote a safe and compliant working environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, especially when reviewing safety procedures, documentation, and risk assessments.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety).
  • Experience with EHS audits, inspections, and safety training in the construction sector.
  • Certification in manual handling, first aid, or other safety-related qualifications is advantageous.
