Temporary Financial Accountant

Our client, a leading organisation within the Public Sector, is seeking to appoint a Temporary Financial Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified finance professional to join a key national healthcare body and contribute to the financial governance, reporting, and control of the organisation.

About the Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Financial Accountant will play a key role in supporting the financial management, reporting, audit, and governance functions of the organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of financial and management accounts, reconciliations, audit support, budget monitoring, and the development of financial controls and procedures.

The position is based in Dublin and is offered on a temporary fixed-term basis from 7 September 2026 to 31 December 2026. A blended hybrid working arrangement is available in line with Public Sector and Civil Service guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and associated financial reports.
  • Support budget management and ensure effective budgetary control procedures are maintained.
  • Prepare annual financial statements and supporting working papers.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors and respond to audit queries in a timely manner.
  • Support internal audit processes and provide financial documentation as required.
  • Prepare account reconciliations, cost analysis, financial reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in the development, review, and documentation of financial policies and procedures.
  • Support financial governance, controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor Accounts Payable activity and provide reporting as required.
  • Engage with key stakeholders including auditors, banks, suppliers, hospitals, and other external partners.
  • Contribute to finance-related projects, systems improvements, and the integration of financial information across the organisation.

Requirements

  • Professional accountancy qualification with membership of a recognised body such as CPA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • Third-level qualification in Finance, Accountancy, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ accounting experience (pre- and post-qualification experience considered).
  • Proven experience preparing management accounts and financial accounts.
  • Experience supporting internal and external audit processes.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and financial control skills.
  • Advanced IT and financial systems proficiency with excellent Excel skills.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.

Desirable

  • Experience within a healthcare environment.
  • Experience working within the public sector.
  • Knowledge of public sector financial governance, controls, and reporting requirements.

Salary & Benefits

  • Grade VII Health Sector Salary Scale: 61,219 to 79,583 (pro rata as applicable).
  • 35-hour working week.
