Temp Finance Director (Part-Time)

Our client, a leading organisation within the Public Sector, is seeking to appoint a Temporary Finance Director. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced finance professional to join the senior leadership team of a key public sector organisation and provide strategic financial oversight, governance, and assurance across the organisation.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Finance Director will lead and oversee all aspects of the finance function, ensuring the highest standards of financial management, governance, and compliance. As a member of the senior management team, the successful candidate will contribute to the strategic direction and ongoing development of the organisation.

The position is based in Dublin 2 and is offered on a temporary, part-time basis, initially requiring 3 days per week, reducing to 2 days per week in line with business needs. Attendance on Tuesdays and Thursdays is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of the finance function and all associated financial operations.
  • Deliver financial assurance, advice, and reporting to the CEO and Board.
  • Lead financial and management accounting activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow management.
  • Ensure effective financial controls, governance frameworks, and risk management processes are maintained.
  • Support organisational strategy and contribute to senior leadership decision-making.
  • Oversee financial aspects of major funding and service-support schemes, including financial arrangements with external service providers.
  • Manage tax compliance and support the development of finance-related projects and process improvements.
  • Build effective relationships with key stakeholders across government departments, agencies, service providers, and other public sector bodies.

Requirements

  • Professional accountancy qualification with membership of a recognised accountancy body or equivalent finance qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ senior-level experience in financial and/or management accounting.
  • Strong leadership experience with a proven track record of delivering results in a complex environment.
  • Excellent financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Outstanding communication, stakeholder management, and team leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands and meet tight deadlines.
  • High levels of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Experience within the healthcare sector.
  • Knowledge of public sector procurement and governance processes.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: Principal Officer Higher Scale Point 1 €116,397 pro rata.
