Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Assistant

Location: Dundalk

Reporting to: Assistant Manager, Training Services

Salary / Position: Temporary Position / €20 per hour

Role Overview

The Temporary Facilities Maintenance Assistant is responsible for supporting the upkeep, safety, and functionality of the Training Centre in Dundalk. The role involves carrying out general maintenance duties, including basic repairs, woodwork, painting, and DIY tasks, to ensure the Centre is maintained to a high standard and remains a safe and efficient environment for staff, learners, and visitors.

The successful candidate will contribute to the day-to-day maintenance and presentation of the facilities and support the smooth running of training operations through proactive facilities care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out general maintenance and repair work across the Centre, including woodwork, painting, and basic DIY tasks.
  • Perform routine inspections of buildings, fixtures, fittings, and equipment and report any defects or safety issues.
  • Carry out minor repairs to furniture, doors, fixtures, and fittings as required.
  • Assist with painting, decorating, and improvement projects as needed.
  • Ensure tools and materials are used safely and stored appropriately.
  • Maintain the general appearance of buildings, classrooms, workshops, and external areas.
  • Oversee and support basic upkeep of grounds, yards, pathways, and external spaces.
  • Support health and safety compliance by identifying hazards and taking appropriate action.
  • Assist with the setup and movement of furniture and equipment for training and events as required.
  • Liaise with the Assistant Manager regarding maintenance priorities and work schedules.
  • Report faults, maintenance needs, and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Assistant Manager.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience in general maintenance, caretaking, or facilities support work.
  • Skills in carpentry, painting, or general DIY.
  • Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and maintenance procedures.
  • Certification for forklift operation (desirable but not essential).
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures in a work environment.
