CAD Designer / BIM Technician | Carlow | Competitive Salary (DOE) | Permanent, Full-Time Position

Overview
An established engineering contractor is seeking an experienced CAD Designer / BIM Technician to support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects across Ireland.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, development, and management of engineering drawings and BIM models across all stages of project delivery. This role involves working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to produce high-quality design documentation for treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, and associated infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
CAD Design

• Produce detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD and BIM software
• Develop and maintain:
• Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
• General Arrangement Drawings
• Site Layout Drawings
• Mechanical Arrangement Drawings
• Pipework Layouts
• Civil Engineering Drawings
• As-built Drawings
• Ensure all drawings comply with project standards, specifications, and relevant regulations

BIM & 3D Modelling

• Develop and maintain 3D models for infrastructure projects
• Create coordinated BIM models across civil, mechanical, electrical, and process disciplines
• Perform clash detection and design coordination exercises
• Participate in BIM coordination and design review meetings
• Generate drawing outputs from BIM models
• Support BIM standards, procedures, and ISO 19650 compliance where applicable

Design Coordination

• Liaise with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop fully coordinated designs

Documentation & Quality Control

• Maintain drawing registers and document control procedures
• Manage revision control and drawing updates
• Ensure drawings are issued in accordance with quality management systems

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Engineering, CAD, BIM, Design Technology, or a related discipline
• Relevant CAD or BIM certification is desirable

Experience

• Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in a CAD Design or BIM role
• Previous experience within water, wastewater, utilities, or process-driven environments
• Experience producing engineering drawings for treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, or infrastructure projects
• Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams
