Temporary General Assistant / Caretaker

Role Overview

The Temporary General Assistant will support the efficient day-to-day operation of the Regional Skills & Training Centre, Dundalk. The role involves ensuring a clean, safe, and secure environment, as well as providing general support for the maintenance and operational needs of the Centre. The successful candidate will play an integral part in maintaining high standards of facility presentation, safety, and functionality.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain general cleanliness and tidiness of designated work areas.
  • Ensure wash-up facilities, toilets, and communal areas are regularly cleaned and serviced.
  • Monitor and operate the central heating system efficiently and economically.
  • Regularly clean and maintain drains, water traps, and related systems.
  • Monitor and manage lighting usage to ensure cost efficiency.
  • Keep external areas such as yards, pathways, and loading bays clean, safe, and well-organised.
  • Oversee and maintain the proper use and storage of cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Clean and maintain dust extraction and fume extraction systems to ensure safe operation.
  • Secure all windows, doors, and entry points in assigned areas before lock-up.
  • Ensure all utilities, including lighting, taps, fans, and extractor systems, are switched off after hours.
  • Promptly report defects, hazards, or unusual occurrences to the Assistant Manager.
  • Assist with general operational support as required.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Assistant Manager.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Forklift operation certification.
  • Experience or skills in basic carpentry, general repairs, or facility maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive approach to maintaining safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy training environment.
