Assistant Internal Auditor / Administrative Officer 1 (to the Bar)

Contract: Approximately 2 years (April 2028)
Salary: €71,651 – €92,692 (Administrative Officer 1 Scale, Points 1-3 (to the bar), inclusive of the June 2026 1% pay award)
About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Internal Auditor / Administrative Officer 1 to join its Internal Audit team on a Specific Purpose Contract.
Reporting to the Internal Auditor and Deputy Internal Auditor, you will support the delivery of a professional, independent internal audit service across the University. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified internal audit professional to contribute to governance, risk management, and continuous improvement within one of Ireland’s leading universities.
The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of audit assignments, engage with stakeholders across the University, and provide practical recommendations that strengthen internal controls and organisational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage, and deliver a portfolio of internal audit assignments across the University.
- Prepare risk assessments, audit programmes, and working papers.
- Conduct audits in accordance with Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards.
- Draft audit reports and make practical recommendations to improve governance, risk management, and internal controls.
- Engage with management to discuss audit findings and agree recommendations.
- Contribute to the annual audit planning process and maintenance of the Internal Audit Risk Register.
- Support the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the Internal Audit function.
- Undertake administrative and compliance activities relating to the Internal Audit service.
- Represent the Internal Audit function at meetings as required.
Essential Requirements
- Third-level qualification.
- Fully qualified member of a recognised accountancy body and/or the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
- Strong knowledge of internal audit methodology, governance, internal controls, and risk management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently while building trusted relationships across the organisation.
Desirable Experience
- At least one year’s post-qualification experience in an Internal Audit role.
- Experience delivering internal audits across a range of business functions.
- Experience preparing audit reports and presenting recommendations to senior management.
- Experience within the public sector, higher education, or another complex organisation is advantageous.
